The East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre Archive holds significant collections documenting the history of one of the UK’s oldest mosques and the Muslim community in East London. The archive spans the growth of the organisation from a fund to establish a mosque in London, to the first East London Mosque in East London, to the building of the purpose built Mosque and London Muslim Centre on Whitechapel road. The collections document the functions and activities of the Mosque and Centre and includes photographs, minutes, annual reports, correspondence, marriage records, conversion records, finance records, fundraising appeals, architectural and building records, and press cuttings. The collections also includes records of the Indigent Moslems Burial Fund and the Jamiat-ul-Muslimin.
What is available?
Materials are made available at the discretion of the Archive staff, and so some may be not be accessible to external researchers. Files which contain sensitive personal information about individuals are similarly restricted access under the Data Protection Act 1988.

How can I see the collections?
Access to the East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre Archive is by appointment. Please email archives@londonmuslimcentre.org.uk to make an appointment. All users are required to register with the service on their first visit. Please bring a form of photo ID as well as a second ID providing proof of your permanent address.
Our reading room is opened on a part-time basis; currently every Saturday 10am-2pm or 2pm-6pm subject to appointment.
