  • November 2017: Inauguration of East London Mosque Archives Strongroom by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan (22 November) with other chief guests including the CEO & Keeper of the National Archives, Jeff James
  • Builders’ contracts awarded for Strongroom in basement of Maryam Centre
  • October 2015: Event in Fieldgate Street Synagogue – an Open Day with presentations by Historian Gerry Black and Synagogue’s former rabbi; guests included families with memories of visiting this place of worship (last regular service in 2009; site purchased and renovated by East London Mosque Trust in 2015-2016)
  • January 2015:  Event to launch on-line archive catalogue and reading room service; chief guests Simon Hughes MP; Sadiq Khan MP; Jeff James (TNA); Professor Humayun Ansari
  • January 2015: Archivist Eilis McCarthy’s presentation at the Everyday Muslim symposium, Bishopsgate

  • November 2013: Grant from the National Manuscripts Conservation Trust for the conservation of the East London Mosque Minutes Book
  • September 2013: Appointment of Archivist Eilis McCarthy, following successful TNA bid
  • April 2013: Presentation on East London Mosque Archives by Jamil Sherif at the Religious Archives Group Conference
  • March 2013: East London Mosque Trustees establish Archives Steering Committee, inviting professional representation from the Tower Hamlets Archive & Local History Centre and the Religious Archives Group
  • February 2013: East London Mosque hosts Exploring and Preserving Mosque Histories seminar in collaboration with the Building on History: Religion in London project
  • January 2013: Second  bid to the TNA submitted by Shaynul Khan successful – for employment of  a professional contract archivist for a year to catalogue the collection
  • August 2012:  Royal Holloway College archivist Annabel Gill undertakes short project to provide an overview of contents
  • April 2012: First funding bid to the National Archives’ Cataloguing Grant Programme – not successful
  • 2010: Planning for Centenary activities; Professor Humayun Ansari prepares for publication  The Making of the East London Mosque, 1910-1951: Minutes of the London Mosque Fund and East London Mosque(Camden Fifth Series); published in 2011
  • August 2010: Cabinets purchased for storage of materials in the Library
  • February – September 2009: Hamzah Foreman begins collation of materials from various sites in the East London Mosque  for storage in the Library in the London Muslim Centre
  • Sometime in the late 1990s: East London Mosque’s veteran community organiser and Chairman of the East London Mosque Trust, Sulaiman Jetha, hands over documents he had kept for safekeeping in his attic to Choudhury Mueenuddin,  Secretary, ELMT.
